Solo and Small Firm Section launches book club; inaugural meeting on ‘Profit First’ open to all
‘We will discuss books that focus on the business of law — running your practice, marketing, hiring the best people’
The Solo & Small Firm Section is rolling out a new, virtual book club as a section-member benefit and the September 21 inaugural session is open to everyone, even non-section members.
Kellye Brubaker, a CPA, will lead a discussion on “Profit First: Transform Your Business from a Cash-Eating Monster to a Money-Making Machine” by Mike Michalowicz. Details and registration are on the section’s website.
According to Solo & Small Firm Section Technology Committee Chair Liz McCausland, the book club is intended to be a fun, educational, networking opportunity for members.
“We will discuss books that focus on the business of law — running your practice, marketing, hiring the best people, etc.” said McCausland, an Orlando bankruptcy attorney and technology consultant who also serves as the Solo & Small Firm Section’s Board of Governors liaison. “We think the first book and its facilitator are so good that we’re inviting everyone to attend our inaugural session, which we also hope will be an incentive to join the section.”
Book club meetings will be every other month on third Thursdays, from 12–1 p.m. via Zoom.
In “Profit First,” Michalowicz shows that by taking profit first and apportioning only what remains for expenses, entrepreneurs will transform their businesses from “cash-eating monsters to profitable cash cows.” You can read “Profit First” on Audible, LIT Video Books, Amazon, and CreativeLive.
Brubaker is the founder of Profit Scale Thrive, author of the book, Stop Struggling and Start Thriving: A Guide To Transform Your Law Firm, and a “Certified Mastery-Level Profit First Professional,” according to the section
