Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

The observance of Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan and enacted into law in 1988 to cover a 30-day period, which this year runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The theme for 2026 is “Unidos, Somos Más.” (“Together, We Are More”).

The Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board is hosting a series of events from Sept.15 to Oct. 15.

• Tuesday, Sept. 15
  11 a.m.
  Join the Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board kick-off at 11 a.m. on Sept. 15 at the Stephen P. Clark Center. Enjoy musical tributes to Celia Cruz, Colombia and Venezuela, plus a one-day exhibition featuring 40+ artworks. The free event is open to the public.
• Friday, Sept. 18
  6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
  Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
  Join Vizcaya Museum and Gardens for an evening celebrating quinceañera culture and the rich connections between history, heritage and community.
• Saturday, Sept. 19
  5 p.m.
  The Underline
  A free benefit concert supporting communities impacted by earthquakes in Venezuela and Colombia. Enjoy an evening with live music, culture and collective action.
• Saturday, Oct. 10 
  5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  Join Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert, III at the Hispanic Heritage Festival at Country Village Park, 6550 NW 188th Terrace
• The Miami-Dade Public Library System is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of online programs, outdoor events and recommended reads for all ages
