City of West Palm Beach Department of Parks and Recreation
City of West Palm Beach Department of Utilities

WHAT:                 In preparation for Hurricane Season, the City of West Palm Beach will conduct a training exercise and post-hurricane simulation for the City’s Department of Public Works and Department of Parks and Recreation to practice hurricane recovery procedures. Should a major weather event impact our City, these simulations are critical to ensure a prompt recovery that prioritizes the public’s safety.

The City of West Palm Beach trains for hurricanes and disasters year-round to ensure our City is prepared, and this training is one of many exercises that take place throughout the year. This training is designed to prepare emergency responders for potential hurricanes and their aftermath.

During the simulation, participants will be tasked with responding to mock hurricane disaster scenarios. This could include search and rescue operations, medical response, communication strategies, and coordination of resources. The simulation will simulate the challenges that would arise during a real-life hurricane disaster, including power outages, flooding, and injuries.

City of West Palm Beach Emergency Manager Asst. Chief Brent Bloomfield will speak to the media on-site about the importance of preparing for hurricane season. The Atlantic Hurricane season occurs from June 1 – November 30, 2023.
