Historic Northwest Neighborhood Tree Planting Begins this Month!

Tree plantings and establishing shade canopies are part of the City’s Sustainability/Resilience efforts and contribute to the Keep West Palm Beach Beautiful campaign.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – The City of West Palm Beach will plant approximately 207 street trees throughout the Historic Northwest Neighborhood in late May and June. These plantings will contribute to the City’s overall goal of reducing the severity of heat throughout our City, while increasing stormwater uptake and carbon sequestration. The increased canopy coverage will provide essential cooling and ecological services.

This project will include a variety of native and Florida-friendly tree species such as Live Oak, Gumbo Limbo, Green Buttonwood, Tamarind, Pink Tabebuia, Verawood, Geiger Tree, East Palatka Holly, and Silver Buttonwood. The trees will be cared for, watered, and pruned for two years after planting, with help from the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).

The planting project is expected to begin in late May 2023, and the anticipated timeline for completion, once the project has commenced, is approximately a month. The project limits will extend from north of Banyan Blvd. to south of Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. and east of Tamarind Ave. to west of Rosemary Ave.
