Gedeon & Morales Law Group to Receive Commendation for Pro Bono Work

Gedeon & Morales Law GroupThe Gedeon & Morales Law Group — a Hollywood-based law firm with an unrelenting focus on delivering pro bono legal services to the underprivileged — will receive the 2024 Law Firm Commendation from Chief Justice Carlos G. Muñiz at the annual Pro Bono Awards ceremony January 18 at the Supreme Court of Florida. The commendation honors significant contributions in the delivery of legal services to individuals or groups on a pro bono basis.

Founded by Nadine Gedeon and Cristina Morales, the Gedeon & Morales Law Group has logged thousands of hours in pro bono service – more than a thousand in the past year alone.

In the past year, Gedeon has provided pro bono representation for five cases and low-fee (low bono) representation for eight cases. She also devotes time each week to visit Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, where she meets with recent immigrants, recognizing the challenges many of them face because they can’t afford a lawyer.

Meanwhile, Morales provided pro bono representation to a Cuban political activist in a 2019 case and handled six pro bono asylum cases between 2022 and 2023 – a combined 900 hours of pro bono service.

Beyond the partners’ remarkable individual contributions, what truly stands out is the culture of service they have fostered within the firm. During pro bono clinics, it is not just the partners at the forefront of providing legal aid. All staff members, including paralegals and other personnel, come forward, volunteering their time and expertise. This collective spirit of giving back to the community amplifies the firm’s impact on those in need.

This year’s awards ceremony, which also honors IndividualCircuitVoluntary BarYoung Lawyers Division, Distinguished Judicial Service, and Distinguished Federal Judicial Service pro bono efforts, takes place at the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday, January 18, at 3:30 p.m. Watch it live on FacebookWFSU: Gavel to Gavel and the Florida Channel.
