National Mosquito Control Awareness Week

Aedes aegypti , sometimes called the Egyptian mosquito, dengue mosquito or yellow fever mosquito

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, observed from June 15 to June 21, emphasizes the importance of mosquito control.

Mosquitoes may seem small and insignificant, but they transmit diseases and parasites to humans, dogs and horses. For humans, the diseases transmitted by mosquitoes include malaria, dengue virus, Zika, and West Nile virus.

In response to the threat of these diseases, the County’s Department of Solid Waste, through its Mosquito Control Division, implements various mosquito control measures, providing services and techniques to reduce mosquito numbers. The division also offers valuable educational information and tips to help residents protect themselves from mosquitoes and the diseases these insects may transmit.
