DAC Celebrates 14th Anniversary
& Honors Unsung Heroes

South Florida - The Diaspora Arts Coalition is proud to present its 5th Annual Awards Gala & Fundraiser, marking its 14th Anniversary.  
This event will take place on Saturday, October 27t h, 6:30 p.m.
at the Miami Shores Country Club, 10000 Biscayne Blvd in
Miami Shores.

The celebration will honor unsung heroes in our community, those who have served in the shadows, doing great work behind the scenes with little or no recognition. 

The 2012 DAC Arts, Culture and Education AMBASSADORS include: The Honorable Oliver Gilbert, Mayor, City of Miami Gardens; Ms. Caridad I. Gutierrez, Assistant Professor/Program Coordinator, Miami Dade College; Mr. Fedrick C. Ingram, Secretary/Treasurer, United Teachers of Dade; Pastor Avery Jones; Founder/Director, The Spirit of Life Ensemble, and Pastor of Holy Spirit Ministries; Rev. Carol Nash-Lester, Director, Retention & Transition Services, Miami Dade College, and Senior Pastor of Bethel Apostolic Temple;                    Stephen & Amy Tarrago, Owners/Artistic Directors, Twin Dragons Martial Arts and Body Motion Dance Company; Mrs. Gladys Oppong-Tettah, PR Officer, United Ghana Association of Florida; The Late Mr. Kenneth Tolbert; Former Director of Bands, Miami Norland Senior High School;  and Dr. Isaiah Urhoghide, President, Edo Association of Florida.   Miami Northwestern High School Senior, Ms. Keianna Page will be awarded the Chief Sandrell Rivers Arts & Education Scholarship for her outstanding academic achievements and community service.  The evening will also feature Live entertainment; fantastic cuisine, a silent auction and more…

Diaspora Arts Coalition/DAC is a not-for-profit service organization that supports artists and arts organizations.  The mission of DAC is to empower the arts community of the African American and Caribbean Diaspora to preserve its culture and heritage.  This is achieved through education, marketing, advertising, performance, presentation, technical support, capacity building, audience development, training, artist development and advocacy.  Established in 1998, the organization serves as a voice for these entities.  Its current membership is comprised of more than 200.  DAC has been instrumental in helping to bring to fruition countless programs, events, arts and cultural happenings throughout South Florida and abroad.
