Jessica Yap is an unassuming violinist with compelling presence. She is a national gem in her native island, Jamaica, since captivating audiences at the early age of 3 years old when she began performing publicly.
At the age of 5 years, Jessica became the youngest in the Caribbean to gain a distinction in Grade 5 theory examinations with the Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music in London, England. She has maintained distinctions for violin in all grades. At age 13, Jessica achieved a diploma in violin performance (dip, ABRSM).

The Chinese Cultural Foundation’s is proud to present the 24th Annual Chinese New Year Festival celebrating the Year of the Dragon to be held on Sunday, February 12th 2012 at the Miami-Dade College, Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104 Street, Miami. The gates will open at 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and show times are 12:30pm and 3:45pm. We invite you to join us as we celebrate 4710, Year of the Dragon.
Our festival is a family friendly environment at Miami-Dade College and features an amazing stage show with exciting cultural entertainment including; Sinoelite Acrobats * Matsuriza Taiko Drums of Disney , Epcot * CASEC Dancers *Jessica Yap, the Amazing Violinist * Lion and Dragon Dance *Jinglu Cao Soprano * Zhang Yuan Dance Ensemble. We were voted by the readers of Asian Trend magazine as one of the Best Asian Cultural Event in Florida 2010.
This year our special guest artist is Jessica Yap. Jessica is a classically trained violinist, and has successfully crossed-over to jazz, rock and reggae. Jessica performed for us in 2009 and the requests to have her come back and perform again have been overwhelming. Just before coming to us Jessica was whisked off without notice to perform in Beijing at the celebrations honoring Jamaica’s success at the 2008 Olympics. Jessica Yap will only be performing at our 12:30 p.m. show.
The festival will include many Asian Exotic foods, cultural arts and craft vendors. There will also be a children’s Playground * Rock Climbing * Bounce House * Chute Slide for the kids and a Table Tennis competition.

A portion of proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Education and Awareness, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Parkoptimist’s Parkinson Support Group. Participating organizations include: The Chinese Cultural Association, Organization of Chinese Americans – South Florida Chapter, Chinese Association of Science, Engineering and Culture (CASEC) and CONFUCIUS Institute, Miami Dade College.
