FREE DOG TRAINING CLASSES OFFERED AT
ANIMAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

(MIAMI, November 16, 2011) Thanks to the support and commitment of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, the Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (ASD) in coordination with the South Florida Dog Trainer’s Networking Group will be providing free dog training classes at the ASD shelter located at 7401 NW 74 Street, Miami, FL  33166.  This service will be provided once a month.

There will be two training sessions offered on Saturday, November 19.  Session one, “Ask the Trainer”, is for dog owners to ask useful questions about their dogs.  This session is for owners without dogs.  Session two includes actual obedience training of dogs with their owners.  The curriculum for the obedience training class is modeled off of the Association of Pet Dog Trainer’s (APDT) C.L.A.S.S. program, which stands for Canine Life and Social Skills. C.L.A.S.S., through its evaluation, curriculum, and training resources, advocates the use of reward-based training. Positive, reward-based training minimizes the use of punishment and is fun for the owner and dog.

COMMISSIONER DAVIS’ LEAGUE OF CLERGY MEETING

City of Miramar Commissioner, Alexandra P. Davis will be holding her third League of Clergy meeting comprised of area religious leaders from various faiths on Friday, November 4, 2011 starting at 6:30 p.m. at New Hope Worship Center, located at 6855 Miramar Parkway, FL 33023.

Commissioner Davis has invited the newly appointed Broward School Superintendent, Mr. Robert Runcie, who will be in attendance, along with School Board Member Patti Good.  Commissioner Davis hopes to facilitate dialog between the clergy and various agencies, all having the same goal of reaching out to the community at large.

The daughter of a minister, Commissioner Davis knows first-hand the impact churches and various other places of worship have on the community. “I grew up with the very real understanding that the first point of contact for the needy was indeed the church. There, one could always find the help you needed even if it meant coming from the minister him or herself.”

As an elected official I have a duty and a commitment to serve all our residents and provide for them the help they need where possible or by referring them to other resources that can provide the assistance they seek.”  The Commissioner has reached out to the faith-based community because she believes they have the same social concerns and the desire and conviction to help others as do elected officials.

The league meets on a bimonthly basis and the Commissioner hopes that more places of worship will continue to be a part of this initiative.

If you have any question or concern, please call 954.602.3130.
