OPA-LOCKA – “Living the American Dream… A Reality or an ‘Inside Job?’” A astounding topic of exploration, to be examined at the FREE “Lunch & Learn: Cinema Saturday” on February 25, 2012 from 10:00 AM– 2:00 PM, at the Opa-locka Municipal Complex, 780 Fisherman St., 2nd Floor in Opa-locka, as Commissioner Rose Tydus, along with the Mayor and Commission, continue a mission of setting goals to educate, unite and empower residents in the City of Opa-locka through programs and initiatives which are designed to enlighten and increase awareness of the conscience minded.
Utilizing a variety of movie themes to promote strong family values, unity, non-violence, health, hope, self-worth and historical awareness, during the monthly “Cinemas,” Commissioner Tydus highlights a combination of issues while delivering messages of personal and community improvement. This “Special” Black History Month Edition of the ‘Lunch & Learn: Cinema Saturday,’ will include, game/door prizes, entertainment by N.O.G., motivational speaker Nick Zizi, Real Estate Broker/former Citibank Executive Don Parker, and a Soul Food Lunch accompanied by excerpts from the controversial documentary “INSIDE JOB!”
Through the sponsorship of various businesses, Commissioner Tydus is able to afford the opportunity to residents, particularly the youth, to view FREE quality movies in their own backyard, while receiving a hot lunch and an enjoyable learning experience at the “Lunch & Learn: Cinema Saturdays.” According to Tydus, this type of support can have a long term-effect on individuals within the community, with regard to behavior, expectation, optimism, community perspective, social-consciousness, as well as worldly exposure.
Whereas, traditionally, the entire community would be invited to attend “Cinema Saturdays,” due to the profound nature and the in-depth content (requiring an analytical comprehension and a longer attention span), the recommended age for THIS month’s movie, “Inside Job,” is 13-years to Adult.
